Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr. Spangenberg is a specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon who qualified from Pretoria University and did postgraduate training at Wits University, in Johannesburg South Africa.

Background

After qualifying, Dr. Spangenberg commenced his medical intership, at both the Katatura and Windhoek Central State Hospitals in Windhoek, Namibia. He left Namibia to complete his community service year at Kimberley State Hospital, whereafter he started working as a Medical Officer in Orthopaedics, at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto .

 

He was then selected for an Orthopaedic Registrat post at Wits University, where he completed most of his training at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, where he also spent a total of 12 months at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hands Unit. Dr. Spangenberg qualified as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2019.

Although Dr. Spangenberg works within the full spectrum of Orthopaedic practice, he has a special interest in Hand & Wrist pathology:

• Hand and wrist trauma

• Tendon/Nerve injuries to the upper limb

• Rheumatoid conditions of the hand

• Osteoarthritic conditions of the hand

• Dupuytren's Disease

• Contractures (traumatic and developmental)

• Wrist Arthroscopy and minimally invasive surgical techniques

• Joint replacement surgery

• Wrist/finger arthrodesis

• Tendon transfers and neurotization procedures for peripheral nerve injuries
